Revealing and retrofitting a Grade-II listed Georgian Townhouse for a family of seven.
daab was appointed to peel back hundreds of years of disrespectful interventions which over time, dissolved the delicate beauty of the Townhouse architecture. daab assembled a skilled team of craftspeople to painstakingly restore the scarring, recovering masonry, ironmongery, plaster work, panelling and woodwork to reveal and enhance their design and craftmanship.
Invisible spine of the conservation scheme, the retrofitting of the services was consolidated and taken out of the geometrical straicase to the rear façade, granting an overdue extension of the building life cycle while preserving and allowing the features to shine.
daab established a new larger living hub, thinking about the needs of a large modern family. A new staircase provides a new connection between the lower lounge, cellar, and utility areas to the new high-tech kitchen and living space.
The 4.5m high ceilings first floor rooms were given to the five children as music and television play zones. A summer terrace with playful lighting, crisp lines and material provides a fantastic family outdoor space.
daab has achieved that delicate balance between upgrading a Georgian terrace and revealing its protected features. The resulting home is one full of delicate details and contemporary spaces that will serve and endure for generations to come.
